JONESBORO, Ark. – The Red Wolves women’s basketball team play against Northern Illinois University at First National Bank Arena in Jonesboro on Thursday, November 9, 2023. The Red Wolves beat the Huskies 75-62 during the MAC-SBC Challenge.

Higginbottom piled up 31 points and eight rebounds – both career highs – and handed out six assists to one turnover with four steals. A-State (1-1) outscored the Huskies (0-1) 44-29 in the second half after being behind 33-31 at intermission.

Red Wolves lose senior day game

JONESBORO, Ark. – A-State women’s soccer squared-off against the Appalachian State Mountaineers for a matchup at A-State Soccer Park on Senior Day, Sunday, Oct. 22, 2023. The Red Wolves were defeated 2-1 during their last home match. The team will travel to Mobile, Alabama Thursday to face off against the South Alabama Jaguars for their last game of the season.

JONESBORO, Ark. – The Red Wolves fell to the OSU’s Cowgirls at A-State Soccer Park on Thursday, Sept. 7, 2023. The Red Wolves will take on the James Madison Duke Dogs next Friday, Sept. 15 at home.

JONESBORO, Ark. – Head Coach Brian Dooley and the Red Wolves defeated Northwest Mississippi Community College Rangers 4-0 during an exhibition match at A-State Soccer Park in Jonesboro, Ark., Friday, Aug. 11, 2023. The team will head to Fayetteville next Thursday for their regular season opener against the Razorbacks.

A River of Bluegrass Runs Through Paragould

PARAGOULD, Ark. — The Trinity River Band performed May 21 in the Collins Theater as part of KASU’s Bluegrass Monday.

Known for appearing on the Duggar Mountain Show, the band started playing in 2007. Strictly Country magazine named their song, “A Sinner’s Prayer,” as Song of the Year.

Joshua Harris leads the Trinity River Band in a song. Harris first asked his parents if he could learn the banjo at the age of 10.

Sarah Harris sings as Brianna and Lisa Harris back her up during The Trinity River Band concert. Sarah Harris also learned to play the mandolin in 2009.

Brianna, Lisa and Joshua Harris plays at Paragould’s Collins Theater. Brianna Harris began learning the fiddle at the age of six.

Bluegrass Monday concerts typically occur on the fourth Monday night of each month.

Roots Music Festival Entertains Jonesboro

JONESBORO — The 2018 Arkansas Roots Music Festival entertained Northeast Arkansas residents Saturday, April 14 at the City Water and Light Park.

The festival coincided with Arkansas State’s Delta Symposium XXIV. Musical guests comprised The Spencer Brothers, Tito Deler: The Original Harlem Slim, Side Street Steppers, Wilkinson James, Rising Star Fife and Drum Band, and the Arkansas Brothers.

KASU Station Manager Mike Doyle sings with the Spencer Brothers following their request to him. The siblings sang duets of country music’s favorite hits from the 1950s through the ’70s.

Tito Deler, the original Harlem Slim

Tito Deler, the original Harlem Slim, brought his blues to Jonesboro all the way from New York. Deler would travel to Baton Rouge, Louisiana, for his next show following the festival.

The Side Street Steppers

Christian Stanfield sings while playing guitar with backing from bassist Ben Walsh during a performance from the Side Street Steppers. The Memphis band brought a vintage feel to the festival with its 1920s and ’30s inspired music.

Liz Wilkinson and A.J. Schleber

Liz Wilkinson and A.J. Schleber, singer-songwriters of the band Wilkinson James, performed Americana music for the crowd. The band hails from Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Fifemastor Sharde Thomas

Shardé Thomas, leader of the Rising Star Fife and Drum Band, plays a homemade cane fife in the vanishing fife-and-drum blues tradition. This style of country blues was integral to the African American community in the Delta.

The Arkansas Brothers

The Arkansas Brothers closed out the festival. Their original songs reflect their experiences within the state.

6th Annual Ride Benefits Memorial Gardens

The sixth annual Westside Memorial Garden Ride and Benefit was held Saturday, March 17 at Westside Middle School in Jonesboro. The benefit raises money for the maintenance and upkeep of the memorial garden built in rememberance of the shooting that took place on the grounds in 1998.

We proceeded out the doors and it sounded like firecrackers going off until we started seeing people go down and then it was run for your life,” Scott said.

The Price of Cotton Drops

This creates an unwanted delay for the farmers, as they were hoping to continue picking one of their last fields at a steady pace. The malfunction forces the farmers to stop picking and manually push the cotton out of the machine into a pile on the ground before they could continue working in the field.
